Cuban artists and intellectuals present demands to authorities of the Ministry of Culture

A group of 30 Cuban artists and intellectuals, among whom are the filmmaker Fernando Perez and the actor Jorge Perugorría, entered the Ministry of Culture in Havana on Friday night, to start a dialogue with the authorities and demand guarantees for independent artists, following the events of San Isidro.

More than 90 Cuban artists and intellectuals gathered outside the MINCULT this Friday morning, in solidarity with the San Isidro Movement, and demanded to be received by Minister Alpidio Alonso, in order to solve the situation with independent artists. Cubans.

As a result of this mobilization, a list of demands, which demand that the Cuban government respect and guarantee the free expression, creation and dissent of all Cuban citizens.

Among the claims are the review and compliance with due judicial process to the rapper. Denis Solis and that the independent artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, whose whereabouts are still unknown, be allowed to return to his home after this Thursday the MSI headquarters was violently raided and all activists arrested who were carrying out or supporting a hunger strike started the previous week.

It was precisely one of the San Isidro strikers, the young poet Katherine Bisquet who read the demands they will make to the authorities, in a meeting that is taking place at the time of writing this note.

The entry to the Ministry of Culture of the representatives of the hundred artists, intellectuals, journalists and activists gathered there was supported by loud applause from those present. This was reflected by some of them on their social networks.

"Among applause, a group of 30 artists has just entered the Cuban Ministry of Culture in Havana, in order to start a dialogue. That is what hundreds of people peacefully ask for. I think all of us present feel the same: it is here where we have to be! We want dialogue and love. For everyone and for the good of all. This is how it should always be from today," published the self-taught photographer and filmmaker Gabriel Guerra Bianchini.

Among the artists who came to support the cause of San Isidro, in addition to Pérez and Perugorría, are the actors Mario Guerra, René de la Cruz and Néstor Jiménez, the filmmakers Carlos de la Huerta and Miguel Coyula, the singers Leoni Torres and La Diosa , the rapper Athanai and the pianist Roberto Carcassés.
