The Amnesty International organization demanded this Wednesday the release of Cuban political prisoners Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Mayker "Osorbo" Castillo, artists recognized for their opposition to the Havana regime.
"We demand freedom for the artists Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Mayker "Osorbo" Castillo, they are prisoners of conscience by the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel. Raise your voice for a Cuba without repression and without censorship," said the entity in X, before Twitter, on International Artist's Day.
In another publication he denounced an escalation of repression on the island since 2021, the year in which the two artists were imprisoned: Osorbo was arrested at the end of April and Otero Alcántara during the popular demonstrations of July 11.
In a video he shows images of those protests and the increase in the regime's repression against activists and ordinary citizens.
Last year, Otero Alcántara and Maykel "Osorbo" were sentenced to five and nine years in prison, respectively, for alleged acts of outrage against the symbols of the country, contempt, defamation of institutions and organizations and of heroes and martyrs. , attack, resistance and public disorders, said a statement from the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Cuba.
Several international organizations have come together to ask for the release of both, who remain in maximum security prisons in Artemisa and Pinar del Río.
However, the Cuban regime has ignored these claims in favor of the top figures of the opposition San Isidro movement.
