The Mexican justice system sentenced a Cuban man accused of brutally murdering his ex-partner in a bar in Tapachula to 30 years in prison at the end of November 2023.
The State Attorney General's Office (FGE), through the Prosecutor's Office Against Femicide, achieved the sentence against Iván Cabrera Martínez, for the feminicide of his ex-partnerYarlenis Ortiz.
On November 30, the man entered the place where the woman worked as a waitress around 2:00 pm and, without saying a word,murdered with machetes in front of your co-workers and customers who had lunch at the bar-restaurant called Caguamero.
The Control Judge and Trial Court of Tapachula imposed the sentence after hearing the testimonies of eyewitnesses to the event.
They said that around 2:00 p.m. the 34-year-old Cuban was working in the establishment when Iván, also a 32-year-old Cuban, entered the place carrying a machete.
"Without saying a word, he pounced on Yarlenis and attacked her brutally, causing multiple injuries to her face, stomach and legs," they said.
Despite the attempts of diners and co-workers to stop the aggressor, Iván "N" managed to escape from the place; But when he crossed the street the municipal traffic police intercepted him and detained him.
Emergency services arrived at the scene to provide medical attention to the victim, but he no longer had vital signs.
The State Attorney General's Office in Mexico expressed its "strong rejection of any form of violence against women" and affirmed that it has a high commitment tothese crimes do not go unpunished.
Days after the crime, the young woman's relatives asked for help to repatriate her body so they could bury her in her homeland. They explained that she and her feminicide were traveling through Mexico to reach the border with the United States.
