More than a hundred foreign immigrants, including 39 Cubans, were detained in the state of Tabasco by authorities from the National Migration Institute (INM) of Mexico, when they were traveling in the trailer of a truck "in conditions of overcrowding and risk to their lives."
According to reports from the Mexican immigration authority cited by local media, the incident occurred in the town of Malpasito, in the municipality of Huimanguillo, where federal immigration agents intercepted the vehicle and discovered that the box contained145 migrants in an irregular situation.
During the “humanitarian rescue” 20 minors under 18 years of age, who were traveling accompanied, and 125 adults -38 women and 87 men- were identified, according to the report fromCurrent News Tabasco.
In addition to the 39 Cubans, the group was made up of 50 people from Ecuador, 17 from China, 16 from Bangladesh, nine from Nepal, eight from Honduras, five from India and one from Guatemala.
The 20 minors, along with their families, were transferred to the Administrative Office for the Channeling of Accompanied, Unaccompanied and Separated Girls, Boys and Adolescents, of the INM, where they will be cared for by personnel from the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family ( DIF) of Villahermosa, Tabasco, indicated the note.
The flow of migrants from different countries through Mexico towards thesouthern border of the United States shows no signs of stopping.
Cubans make up one of the largest human groups that make the difficult journey to reach one of the US border points and be able to request asylum. Heexodus of migrants from Cuba, who are stampeding away from the most serious economic, social and political crisis that the island has suffered since 1959, has reached unprecedented numbers.
At least 533,000 Cubans arrived in the United States in the last two years, a figure equivalent to 4.8% of the 11.1 million inhabitants of the island, according to thenews agencyAP, which cited data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other institutions.
This figure includes the entries of Cubans benefiting from thehumanitarian parole program, thanks to which more than 67,000 arrived in that country in 2023.
According to the latest figures revealed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), during the previous year,more than 300,000 Cubans requested asylum in different parts of the world.
