Fire consumes home during storm in Havana: grandmother loses everything

The fire was due to a short circuit in the house caused by the rains.


A Cuban grandmother lost all her belongings during a fire that occurred this Friday night in the Diez de Octubre municipality of Havana, in the middle of the intense rains that have occurred in the Cuban capital.

Journalist Mario J. Pentón said in his account on the social network

The communicator assured that “the firefighters took more than 20 minutes to arrive,” while the elderly woman who lived in the house “lost everything.”

Furthermore, he stated that “grandmother had to be rescued because she did not want to leave her house holding on to the little she had.”

The strong storms that occurred on Friday afternoon in Havana and other western provinces have left severe damage.

In the Cuban capital, the first information indicates 26 total collapses.

To date, it has also been reported 148 people protected in state centers and another 762 people self-evacuated at the home of family and friends.

In Matanzas, An abandoned building located in the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood collapsed this Friday night.

According to a report in the official newspaper Giron “The façade of an old foundry that had been disused for several years due to construction problems” on Calle San Juan de Dios, corner of San Diego in the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood, collapsed without leaving any people injured.
