A medium-sized fire broke out this Friday in a home located on Santa Úrsula street between 5th and 6th street in the Reparto Flores neighborhood, in Santiago de Cuba, as reported on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.
Images published by the aforementioned source showed the moment when the firefighters extinguished the flames coming out of the interior of the house.
The alleged cause of the accident was the explosion of a recently purchased gas canister, revealed the reporter citing the testimony of residents in the area.
Apparently there were no injuries, although there was material damage, as could be seen in several published photos.
It's sad to see everything I saw, and I know that news spreads and that the media is there for that, but how sad to see what I saw, people who instead of helping were taking selfies, while neighbors were carrying water to calm the fire until the firefighters arrived. Others were laughing while recording what was happening, a little more conscience, my people," a witness reported.
"Very regrettable that incident. It was tremendous to see the owner being taken out of there crying. Very sad everything. My God, we Cubans really need you," another commentator pointed out.
It is not the first incident of its kind in the last few days in the main municipality of Santiago de Cuba.
On June 1st, a fire destroyed an apartment in a building located in the Antonio Maceo neighborhood.
