The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Cuba announced that the fire that broke out on Friday in the fuel tank of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant (CTE) in Matanzas is now completely extinguished.
"The foam runs down the dome of the tank and they say it's good news. The fire is about to be extinguished," Radio 26 station posted on their Facebook wall.
About an hour ago, firefighters and workers from the power plant managed to extinguish the fire that broke out this morning in a fuel tank.
In a post on her Facebook wall, Guiteras pointed out that she was still online.
The fire in one of its fuel tanks is being controlled by the firefighters, and thanks to the operation of its fire protection system, all protection measures are being taken, including the use of foam, cooling of surrounding tanks, and the placement of sand trucks to create a containment barrier in case of spillage," detailed the Matanzas giant.
According to the post, a large part of their employees were evacuated while others stayed behind to provide assistance.
On the other hand, the official journalist Pedro Rizo Martínez specified that the fire was located "in one of the 10 cubic meter tanks of national crude oil."
This morning, the Electric Union (UNE) reported a fire in one of the fuel supply tanks at the Guiteras CTE.
"All necessary measures are being taken to avoid stopping the machine, as well as to prevent any additional technological damage to what is happening in the fuel tank," the entity detailed.
