A piece of good news brings joy to Cubans following the case of the girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz. The little girl is recovering favorably from her organ transplant in Spain and can now play without the discomfort of the IV drips or catheters.
The activist Yamilka Laffita (known as Lara Crofs) has kept Cubans informed about this case since its beginnings in Havana, when Amanda's parents were desperately searching for a medical treatment to save the girl's life.
"Amanda is laughing! Since yesterday, the girl has nothing that hurts or harms that little body. No catheter, no drips, just LIFE. We all continue together," expressed the activist on Facebook, where she shared a lovely recent photo of the girl.
Amanda's family went through a long period of desperation in Cuba because their daughter was weakening every day due to the illness she was suffering from, and the Public Health system was not capable of performing the liver transplant, despite having the donor.
Amanda's mother launched a desperate plea for help on social media, and Cubans came together to support her in her goal of saving the life of little Amanda.
Many people donated money, while others pushed all kinds of efforts until in March 2024, a hospital in Madrid carried out Amanda's liver transplant and has taken care of her until she regained her health.
The doctors warn that Amanda's recovery period will have different stages and it may take some more time for her to be fully discharged. Therefore, she should remain under medical supervision.
The family and friends created an account on the GoFundMe platform, where they have raised 28 thousand euros in donations to support the parents' expenses, as the hospital covers everything related to the girl, but the adults accompanying her need to support themselves and still do not have work permits in Spain.
