The driver, 36 years old and a resident of El Cotorro, Havana, is in critical condition and in danger of death.

A video showing moments from the rescue of the driver of the Transtur Habana bus, who had an accident in Santiago de Cuba on Wednesday, was shared by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta on Facebook.

The recording shows how six men, among whom there are some firefighters, carried the injured person on a stretcher and took him to the road, while someone was heard shouting: "A car, a car!".

The driver is, of the nine injured in the accident, the one who suffered the most serious injuries. His name is Henry Yanes Díaz, he is 36 years old and lives in El Cotorro, Havana. On the day of the incident, authorities reported that he was in critical condition and was in danger of death, and since then nothing more has been known about him.

The incident occurred on the National Highway, in the section from Irijoa to Arroyo Blanco. The bus transporting 40 Cuban travelers from Havana to Santiago collided with a trailer from the Electric Union that was heading towards Contramaestre. After the crash, the bus crashed into a house.

Yosmany Mayeta shared images of how the bus looked after it was removed from the site by the firefighters on Wednesday. The most significant damage was mainly to the front.

According to the reporter, the bus was transporting travelers from José Martí National Airport to Santiago de Cuba, as their Habana-Santiago flight did not take off because the plane had a breakdown and was stranded on the runway of the eastern city.

The passengers left the capital in three buses rented by Cubana de Avión, the first of which was the one that crashed between the municipalities of Contramaestre and Palma Soriano.

"The buses designated for this transportation began to leave after 6:20 PM yesterday [Tuesday] from Terminal 1 of José Martí Airport. They did not leave earlier because they were in the workshop and then had to refuel," he detailed.

"The driver with serious injuries, after leaving the workshop, only had time to get home, take a shower because he was covered in grease, and leave for the airport, where he picked up the first group of people that included parents with children and elderly individuals," he specified.

In addition to the driver, the passenger Ricardo Matos Reyes, 58 years old and a resident of the city of Guantánamo, is reported to be in serious condition but not life-threatening. The other seven injured suffered minor injuries.

Everyone was treated at the Juan Bautista General Hospital in Palma Soriano (the two in serious condition are in intensive care).

So far, the causes of the accident have not been reported.
