Cuban girl Amanda faces new surgery for catheter removal

In December, Amanda had to have a stent placed because her bile duct was dilating, which could have affected her healthy liver.

The Cuban girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz had to be admitted again to the La Paz hospital in Madrid to remove the catheter that was placed in December when she developed a new complication.

According to activist Yamilka Lafita (Lara Crofs), the little girl was admitted on Thursday and after the successful intervention, "she's already doing well, eating and everything."

The catheter was removed without major complications, revealed on Facebook.

In the coming days, they will need to conduct more tests and standard analyses to ensure that everything has gone well before discharging him/her.

"This was her fourth time in the salon and she has exceeded expectations yet again," Lara commented happily.

In mid-December, nine months after undergoing a liver transplant, Amanda had to undergo another surgery to have a stent placed in her dilating biliary duct.

After several unsuccessful attempts to place the stent in the duct for it to function properly, the doctors decided that the only possible option was surgery, as otherwise, the healthy liver could be affected.

The surgical intervention was very long and complex, but the girl is recovering well.

"Amanda has continued to recover at full speed. She eats, is active, and may be able to have a New Year's pass," said Lara Crofs at the end of December.
