Important

In the case of family requests, only one adult should present themselves to prove the relationship, due to capacity limitations.

This measure represents a significant change in Peru's immigration policy, as previously, in March 2022, the government had eliminated the visa requirement for Cubans transiting through Peru without leaving the airport boarding area.

However, days later, Peruvian authorities clarified that all Cuban citizens required a visa to enter, remain, or exit Peruvian territory, and that the country's legislation did not provide for transit migration status.

In 2023, the government of that South American country tightened the requirements for tourism visa applications for Cubans, raising the minimum balance in bank accounts to 400,000 pesos for a duration of six months.

Peru joins other countries in the region that have adjusted their immigration policies in response to changing migration dynamics. For example, in March 2022, Panama began requiring a transit visa for Cubans who made stopovers in its territory, although it later introduced exemptions for certain travelers.

Peruvian authorities urged airlines and travel agencies to promptly inform their clients about these new requirements to avoid disruptions during their itineraries.
