Next Monday, Gloria Estefan, the Queen of Latin Pop, will receive a special tribute: a street in Miami Beach will be named after her, in recognition of her cultural legacy and her connection to the city.
According to Miami New Times, in a significant moment for Latin music and the city of Miami Beach, Cuban-American artist Gloria Estefan will be honored with a street bearing her name on Ocean Drive, at the height of 13th Street, in front of the historic Cardozo hotel, owned by the singer and her husband Emilio Estefan.
The official ceremony is scheduled for this Monday, October 13, at 11 AM, with the presence of Miami Beach Commissioner Laura Domínguez and District 5 Commissioner of Miami-Dade County, Eileen Higgins.
The event marks a recognition not only of Estefan's musical career but also of her contribution to the cultural, tourist, and architectural heritage of the city.
According to Domínguez, the initiative is part of an effort to increase female representation in the names of the city's streets.
"Very few streets in the city had been co-named in honor of women. I am proud to have promoted this proposal, which was unanimously approved," she stated.
The tribute comes just as Gloria Estefan celebrates 50 years of artistic career, a journey marked by international successes such as Conga, multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, the Kennedy Center Honor, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Beyond the awards, Estefan has been a key figure in promoting Latin culture both within and outside the United States.
"Gloria Estefan has called Miami Beach home for years. She and her husband have made significant contributions to our cultural and culinary scene, from their restaurants to the beloved Hotel Cardozo, a gem of the Art Deco District," highlighted Domínguez.
The new address, which will appear alongside the existing one, will not only become a tourist landmark but also a symbol of the lasting impact that an artist can have on their community.
