The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) continues to show signs of instability in the Cuban informal market.
In recent hours, its selling price has risen again, reaching 295 CUP, positioning it very close to the threshold of 300 CUP.
The sales figure today for the digital currency operated by the Cuban regime reflects an increase of five units compared to its value on the previous day.
In recent days, the MLC has entered a rollercoaster dynamic, with sudden drops or increases in its average selling price.

The MLC: The phoenix of the Cuban informal market
For a significant part of 2025, the informal exchange rate of the Freely Convertible Currency has fallen markedly against the Cuban peso.
Its decline has been driven by a loss of confidence among the population, the increased use of cash in dollars and the reduction of products in state-run stores operating in MLC.
These elements fueled persistent rumors for months about their imminent disappearance as a significant means of payment in the Cuban economy.
However, despite those warnings, the MLC has not disappeared; rather, it has shown a remarkable ability to survive.
The MLC remains an ambiguous monetary instrument: declining, yet still functional.

In recent weeks, the Cuban government has intensified its campaign against the informal currency market and against the reference rate published by the independent outlet elTOQUE.
This offensive includes criminal investigations, threats against currency exchange operators, and a communication strategy focused on discrediting alternative sources for the prices of the dollar, euro, and other currencies.
