The informal currency market in Cuba starts this December 12 with two notable updates: the price of the euro decreases while the value of the Free Convertible Currency rises.

At dawn this Friday, the European currency drops to 485 CUP per unit, marking a decrease of five pesos.

The euro thus ends a streak of stability that it had maintained since December 1st, when it reached 490 CUP.

In the case of the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), it rises to 295 CUP, thereby recovering the five pesos it had lost the previous day, according to the daily report revealed on December 12 by the independent media elTOQUE that documents the fluctuations in currency prices in Cuba.

In recent weeks, the Cuban government has intensified its campaign against the informal currency market and against the reference rate published by the independent media elTOQUE.

This offensive includes criminal investigations, threats to currency exchange operators, and a communication strategy focused on discrediting alternative sources for the prices of the dollar, euro, and other currencies.
