The informal foreign exchange market in Cuba starts the day with two notable updates: the price of the dollar decreases, as does that of the MLC.

At dawn this Thursday, the U.S. dollar drops to 440 CUP per unit, which represents a decline of five pesos.

In the case of the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), it falls to 290 CUP, which also represents a decrease of five units compared to the price it reached the day before.

The euro, for its part, remains stable, as revealed on December 11 in the report from the independent media elTOQUE, which documents the fluctuations in currency prices in Cuba.

In recent weeks, the Cuban government has intensified its campaign against the informal foreign exchange market and against the reference rate published by the independent media elTOQUE.

This offensive includes criminal investigations, threats to currency exchange operators, and a communication strategy focused on discrediting alternative sources for the prices of the dollar, euro, and other currencies.
