A Cuban pilot experienced an emotional moment while flying over Havana, reminiscing about his childhood dreams of watching airplanes from the seawall and dreaming of one day being on one of them.

The young man, who currently works as a commercial pilot, shared a video on social media titled: “Havana from 11,000 feet. I remember when I was a child, watching planes in the distance, dreaming of being there one day. Dreams come true.”

In the footage captured from the cockpit, the stunning views of the Cuban capital can be seen from over 11,000 feet, while the pilot narrates with evident emotion what it felt like to see his hometown from the sky again.

"Well, yes, I don’t know why today, when we flew over Havana, or rather over Alamar or the Eastern beaches, we were at about 11,000 or 12,000 feet and the view was spectacular. All the memories came flooding back, from when I was a boy and from that whole era," he recounted in the video.

"Many times I remember standing there on the malecón, by the bay, if you looked closely, you could see the planes taking off from José Martí airport, but they were very small, as they were already far away. And one starts to think... I dreamed of being up there, and sometimes dreams do come true. This time it happened to me: being up there and looking down from the sky at what the city is," he added, visibly moved.

The video, which has quickly gone viral within the Cuban community, has stirred nostalgia among thousands of users who resonate with the pilot's emotions and the longing of those who had to leave their homeland behind.

"How beautiful it is to be able to see your city from the sky again, after so many years," commented one user, while another wrote: "That is the dream of many Cubans who are far from their homeland today."

From above, Havana appears majestic and melancholic, a symbol of the memories that accompany an entire generation of Cubans who, like this pilot, once dreamed of flying... and achieved it.
