The Cuban actor Raúl Enríquez Zerquera passed away this Saturday, reported Cubavisión in a message of condolences, describing him as an “essential” figure in Cuban television for over four decades.
According to that statement, Enríquez was "a true pillar" of television since 1980.
Cubavisión emphasized that his career spanned more than 30 years of sustained work and that, in addition to being an actor, he worked as a writer and theater director, contributing a "comprehensive and rigorous" perspective on art.
In television, the audience remembers him for his roles in numerous soap operas and for his presence in the police show Tras la Huella, where he gave “solid and memorable” performances.
The statement adds that his most recent work is part of the telenovela Ojo de Agua, set to premiere soon, in which he took on a character of "dramatic weight." He also participated in the telenovela Cuando el amor no alcanza.
Enríquez directed the Aries Theater Company, which had 23 years of artistic work in the capital municipality of 10 de Octubre, and their community work is reflected in more than 70 premiered productions.
As an author and/or director, he has incorporated several works: Fandango, The Master of the Dogs, The Three Marias, Black Gangrene, The Peste Family, and Foreign Pain, among others.
For his artistic career, Enríquez received the ACTUAR Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2019.
In a message posted on Facebook, the actor Edwin Fernández remembers him as an "excellent actor and director", known for his straightforward character, love for jokes, and good times, and he pays a posthumous tribute.
The messages shared conveyed condolences to his family, colleagues, and the audience that followed him for years. Undoubtedly, he was an actor who was "committed, respected, and deeply connected" to the history of Cuban television.
