The Minister of Justice of Cuba, María Esther Reus González, has acknowledged the need to review the Civil Registry to streamline bureaucratic processes and has called to avoid "unnecessary requests" for documents.

Reus González met in the province of Sancti Spíritus with officials and specialists from her Ministry, where she "emphasized reducing the demand for certifications that some state institutions unnecessarily request," according to this Tuesday's report by the official newspaper 'Granma'.

In this regard, she announced that the Civil Registry will be "subject to improvement" in 2015 to "reduce and facilitate procedures for the population." The minister criticized the requirement for data that already appears on the identity document and advocated for avoiding "unnecessary requests."

Reus González emphasized that, as officials, they have the duty to "make life easier" for Cubans and reminded the importance of the Civil Registry for registering births, deaths, marriages, or citizenship.
