A total of 1,824 drones came together above the Olympic stadium to draw the event's logo, before coming together in a luminous globe above the heads of the athletes, volunteers and invited personalities, which could also be seen outside, from the most visible areas. close to the facility.

The air show was the most impressive moment in a ceremony unlike any before in the history of the Olympics, inside a practically empty stadium.

The opening of the games, under the motto "Faster, higher, stronger together", was also a tribute to all countries affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and included a minute of silence for the victims of COVID-19.

The ceremony, which lasted around three hours, included the traditional parade through countries of the participating athletes, as well as the lighting of the cauldron, which was shaped like an open flower and evoked Mount Fuji, a symbol of Japanese sports. Tennis player Naomi Osaka was in charge of lighting the flame.

IOC President Thomas Bach gave an emotional speech in which he underlined the value of solidarity to face new challenges. He then invited Emperor Naruhito to officially declare the 2020 Olympic Games open.

Less than a thousand guests attended the show, including authorities and other personalities, in a stadium with capacity for 68,000 spectators.

At the closing, artists such as John Legend, Keith Urban and the Spanish Alejandro Sanz performed the songImagine, by John Lennon, through a video in which the recording process of the song was shown.
