Marco Rubio on Luis Manuel Otero and Luis Robles: They are brave Cubans in the fight for a Cuba without tyranny

Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio congratulated both political prisoners who served years in prison this week, for fighting for a Cuba without tyranny.

The Cuban-American senator Marco Rubio spoke out in favor of the CubansLuis Robles andLuis Manuel Otero Alcántara, both political prisoners in Cuba.

"Sadly so muchLuis Robles asLuis Manuel Otero Alcántara Today they spend their birthdays arbitrarily detained by the bloody dictatorship of Castro and Díaz-Canel. These two brave Cubans today are an example of tenacity and dedication in the fight for a Cuba without tyranny and censorship," said the Republican senator on his Twitter profile.

In this message, Rubio congratulated both Cuban political prisoners, who celebrated their birthdays this week in prison.

Luis Robles Elizástegui turned 29 years old on December 3, in the Combinado del Este prison, in Havana. He has been in prison for almost a year and has not been notified of a trial date. The young man is a native of the province of Guantánamo and was arbitrarily detained on San Rafael Boulevard in Havana on December 4, 2020 for displaying a poster in support of the release of rapper Denis Solís.

The arrest of Solís and his sentence to eight months in prison for "contempt" last year led to a protest by theSan Isidro Movement, which resulted in the historic hunger strike and barracking at the organization's headquarters on Damas Street, the residence of Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, leader of the MSI.

Otero was arbitrarily detained on several occasions during 2021 by State Security, but his final entry into prison occurred on July 11 when the activist tried to join the peaceful protests in Havana against the government.

HeDecember 2 Otero turned 34 years old, imprisoned in a maximum security prison in the province of Artemisa. His friends and followers left dozens of messages on social media demanding his release and an end to repression in Cuba.
