The IACHR reported in astatement that throughResolution 41/22, issued on August 9, 2022, demands a group of protection measures in favor of the Cuban prisoner considering that he is in a serious and urgent situation of risk of irreparable damage to his rights in Cuba.
The Commission said that it asked the Cuban State for observations on this case but they did not receive responses. They asked firstensure that Robles' detention conditions are compatible with the international standards applicable on the matter.
Precautionary measures are ordered by judges with the objective of avoiding any risk that could prevent the proper development of a process. In this case, the IACHR instructed the regime to "provide medical care based on what specialist doctors prescribe"; and "allow regular visits from family members and legal representation."
They also demanded that the Cuban government evaluate, in light of Robles' detention and health conditions, the application of some "alternative measure to the deprivation of his freedom" and "adopt actions against threats, harassment, intimidation or acts of violence." that occur against the political prisoner for denouncing his current situation.
Robles' family and attorney have said they have long faceddifficulties maintaining contact, make visits, and obtain information about your health status.
Recently the prisoner's mother assured that the young man suffered acts ofassault by prison officers in jail and that his rights have not been respected.
They also warn that Robles suffers from chronic gastritis and needs specific medications, which he has not received during his deprivation of liberty.
Robles wasarrested on San Rafael Boulevard in Havana in December 2020 for peacefully demonstrating with a sign calling for an end to repression.
