A man was arrested in Holguín while driving on a road in that province in a stolen passenger car and with 24 bags of raw coffee, according to reports from official sources.

Alexey Ortiz Rodríguez, the alleged perpetrator of several crimes, was caught in the act on the stretch of road between the boundaries of Las Tunas and 6 Columnas in Holguín, reported the Facebook profile "Cazador-Cazado," linked to the Cuban police.

According to the publication, the Kia Picanto vehicle with license plate T036803, known as a "tur" in Cuba, had previously been stolen from a Canadian citizen in the Holguín province.

The source reported that "during the search conducted on the vehicle, a total of 24 sacks of raw coffee weighing 1,200 pounds were seized."

After inspecting the vehicle, the police also discovered a false license plate belonging to a bus from the Agroforestry Company of Santiago de Cuba, with the number B142760, and government insignia on the doors of the car.

At the time of this report, there is no official information regarding the case, which adds to other incidents of car theft and coffee sack thefts that have occurred in the second half of the year in Holguín.

At the beginning of July, a similar incident was reported when a man was arrested for transporting 1,500 pounds of coffee in a passenger car in the town of Alto Cedro, in the municipality of Cueto.

In that case, the police attempted to stop the "tur," but the driver fled. However, a police checkpoint in a neighboring town forced the individual to abandon the car and run away.

In their haste to flee, the occupants forgot to take the lease agreement with them, which contained the information about who rented the vehicle. This ultimately led to the capture of those responsible, as it was not a case of a stolen car.

Also in the same province, at the end of that month, a man was arrested for transporting sacks of coffee and sugar in a stolen tourist car from Guantánamo.

According to the official report, the car was handed over to the authorities and the criminal is expected to be charged with illegal trafficking, disobedience, and theft.
