Three thieves were caught this Friday trying to carry out a peculiar robbery on a rented bus that was traveling from Havana to Camagüey.
While two of them were going as passengers, the third was hiding inside a suitcase in a compartment of the vehicle, ready to loot the luggage.

The swift reaction of the driver, who noticed suspicious behavior and stopped to inspect the trunk, led to the discovery of the unusual maneuver.
When individuals were forced to open their belongings, the two thieves traveling aboard assured that they were transporting "a move," but the inspection revealed that among their suitcases there were only cartons and garbage, designed to camouflage the loot.
Inside one of them was hidden the third accomplice, who planned to discreetly steal the valuable items from the passengers and transfer them to the empty luggage of his companions.
However, the plan was thwarted before they could carry out the robbery.
The passengers themselves confronted the criminals and, before the police arrived, gave them a severe beating.
A brief video shared on the news portal Cántalo TV showed the reactions of the travelers and the alleged thieves after being caught.
This would not be the first case of this kind in recent months.
On social media, several users recalled that a similar operation was reported in November 2024 on the Havana-Nuevitas route, where a group of thieves used the same method to empty travelers' luggage.
Recently, internet user Rafael Moyet reported on Facebook that he had suffered a theft during his journey from Camagüey to Havana on a state-owned bus for which he paid 3,500 pesos.
According to their testimony, a bus with license plate B137421 departed at 7:00 p.m., and at 3:40 a.m., the theft was detected in the luggage compartment.
He criticized that in this case the driver ignored the incident and the police took the vehicle to the San Miguel del Padrón station. Moyet condemned the lack of responsibility of the state-owned company regarding the safety of the luggage and questioned the reliability of interprovincial travel under those conditions.
Reactions to the attempted robbery this Friday
The news has generated a torrent of comments and reactions on social media, where many expressed their astonishment, outrage, and concern over the increasing insecurity in interprovincial transport.
“My God, Master's in Theft. They are just kids. Thank you to that driver who noticed. Every day more misery, more risk, they do whatever they want and nothing happens”, lamented a commentator.
"Now they are truly crazy, speechless"; "Where are those people who would bang their chests and claim that crime in Cuba wasn't like in Latin America?"; "The only people who would rather risk their lives by stealing, facing death or imprisonment, rather than demanding their freedom for fear of dying or going to jail"; "I think they thought that bus was going to take them out of Cuba," were other comments.
Some internet users even hinted that these actions could have some internal complicity within the transportation system, although there is no evidence to support such a claim.
The truth is that interprovincial travelers have become increasingly concerned about the lack of effective controls and the rising frequency of similar crimes, which reflect the desperation and loss of values on the island.
Citizen reports of thefts and assaults in Cuba are very common on social media, highlighting an increase in criminal activities, violence, and insecurity in the country.
The bus terminals, airports, and highways are not immune to the wave of crime, with incidents where criminals endanger people's lives.
Despite the numerous complaints, the police response seems to remain insufficient. The public is calling for greater intervention from the authorities to curb crime, as in addition to material damage, the physical safety of individuals is at risk.
