The community of Reparto La Mosca, in the Cuban province of Camagüey, is experiencing increasingly tense days amid a worrying wave of assaults and thefts that has intensified in recent weeks.

On the social network Facebook, journalist José Luis Tan Estrada reported that local residents have stated that masked individuals are roaming around during the early morning hours to rob passersby —whether motorcyclists, cyclists, or pedestrians— and to commit thefts in homes and public spaces.

"Two days ago, we heard a shout in the street, and when we looked out, it was a woman who had been attacked by a hooded man. It was 6 in the morning," reported a local source quoted by the broadcaster.

Despite the widespread fear, the response from the authorities has been limited, even in light of the prevailing anxiety in the community.

Tan Estrada stated that the head of the sector of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and other local representatives have only urged residents to take extra precautions and not to allow children to play alone in the streets with bicycles or objects that may attract the attention of criminals. They have also been advised to reinforce security measures in their homes.

However, these warnings have not been followed by concrete actions or a visible increase in monitoring, which has led to frustration among the residents, who believe that the authorities are not taking the necessary strong measures.

"The neighborhood is completely unprotected. Here, people are afraid to even go out to work early," commented another consulted source.

Meanwhile, the thefts continue and the atmosphere of insecurity deepens, with no clear signs of effective intervention from the institutions responsible for public order.

Three thieves are captured on a bus in Cuba while trying to steal luggage

Three thieves were caught on Friday attempting to carry out an unusual robbery on a rented bus traveling from Havana to Camagüey.

While two of them were traveling as passengers, the third one was hiding inside a suitcase in a compartment of the vehicle, ready to loot the luggage.

The quick reaction of the driver, who noticed suspicious behaviors and stopped to inspect the trunk, allowed for the discovery of the unusual maneuver.

When the individuals were forced to open their belongings, the two thieves traveling aboard claimed they were transporting "a move," but the inspection revealed that their suitcases only contained cardboard and trash, intended to camouflage the loot.

Inside one of them was hidden the third accomplice, who intended to discreetly steal the valuable items from the passengers and transfer them to the empty luggage of his companions. However, the plan was thwarted before they could carry out the robbery.
