A family from Havana experienced moments of anguish in the early hours of this Tuesday when they caught an alleged thief attempting to enter their home through the window of the room where they were sleeping with their young children.
The incident occurred around 4:20 a.m., according to Claudia Fernández García in a post on Facebook. In the message, the mother recounted how she suddenly woke up and, along with her husband, managed to spot the intruder just before he entered the room where their children, aged 1 and 6, were also sleeping.

"The individual attempted to enter through the window of our room, and as you can see in the video, just as he climbs up quickly, he descends," Fernández wrote, expressing gratitude for the support of his neighbors and family, who shared footage from a security camera that captured the moment.
In the video shared on social media, a man, wearing a mask and a hat, is seen climbing the facade of a building to reach a balcony on the first floor. After sniffing around for a few seconds, he drops back down to the ground and walks away with apparent calm. In earlier footage, he is also seen passing through the area twice, possibly to scout the place before taking action.
The resident alerted about the danger that the thief might attempt to enter, knowing that there were people inside, something she inferred from the sound of the air conditioning running. “These are very tough times, and there are people who, instead of earning an honest living, prefer to take away what we have earned through our sweat,” she denounced.
A concerning trend
The incident adds to a series of thefts recently captured by surveillance cameras in various locations in Havana and other provinces.
In January of this year, at least three thefts were recorded in homes and cafés in the capital, where the criminals acted in the early morning or broad daylight, as documented in the cases from Vedado and 23rd Street.
In 2024, similar incidents were also reported, such as the theft of a bicycle in Las Tunas or an attempted burglary in another Havana residence. In all these cases, the recordings have been crucial in alerting the public, although few conclude with the arrest of the perpetrators.
These situations reflect a growing public concern over the feeling of insecurity and the lack of an effective response from the authorities.
