A Cuban who traveled from Camagüey to Havana on a rented state bus reported the theft of luggage and the lack of security and care for passengers' belongings during interprovincial trips in the country.

The citizen Rafael Moyet shared on Facebook the unfortunate experience he had when he recently traveled from the province of Camagüey to the capital, on a state-run bus rented to serve the public, at a cost of 3,500 pesos per person.

According to his testimony, the bus with the license plate No. B137421, driven by a driver named Norberto, departed from the Camagüey terminal at seven in the evening heading to Havana.

“At 3:40 am, a theft was detected in the luggage compartment, and that’s when our ordeal began when the driver told us that he was not responsible for the thefts,” Moyet recounted.

After calling the police, a patrol "arrived almost immediately" at the scene and took the bus to the 11th station of the PNR, in the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón.

Moyet said that at the police station, they were “treated kindly and quickly by the officer in charge,” but that she “could only file a report.”

The passenger criticized that during an interprovincial trip on a bus rented by a state company, “they do not take responsibility for people's luggage.”

“Now I wonder, with what security can we travel between provinces if the basics are not guaranteed, which is the care of our belongings, that we work so hard to have for our living together,” he questioned.

Citizen reports of thefts and assaults in Cuba are very common on social media, indicating an increase in criminal acts, violence, and insecurity in the country.

Bus terminals, airports, and highways are not immune to the wave of crime, with incidents where criminals endanger the lives of individuals.

Despite the numerous reports, the police response seems to remain insufficient. The public demands greater intervention from the authorities to curb crime, as in addition to material loss, the physical safety of individuals is at risk.
