The case is part of the wave of robberies, assaults, and all types of violence that has plagued Cuban society in recent months.

Although official media assure that the violent climate is less than what is reported on networks and by independent media, many citizens complain about the ineffectiveness of the police to protect them from criminals, as well as to find thieves and recover stolen belongings.

An increasing number of citizens are turning to social networks to try to obtain information whether about stolen cars, motorcycles or even dogs. Many even promise a reward to those who provide reliable information about the stolen items and the alleged identity of the criminals.
