The Cuban regime cited and threatened to prosecute for "contempt" the group of mothers who protested in front of the residence of ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel in the middle of this month.

"Our only crime is to demand our rights, but we face threats and retaliation," Nidia Noriega Rodríguez explained to the portal. Martí News.

The young mother, who has lived in shelters for more than 15 years, along with other women, was summoned to a meeting with local officials, including the mayor of Marianao and senior police officers.

At the meeting, the authorities warned them about possible sentences of one to three years if they continued with their peaceful protests.

"They threatened us because they want us to be afraid; but we are not doing anything wrong, we are demanding our rights, we just want a better future for our children," said Noriega Rodríguez.

"Where are we, mothers with children, who have this inner pain, going to go? Where should we go?" questioned the woman, who decided to go to the Diaz-Canel's house because he had no food to offer his little son.

Noriega Rodríguez said that he had five children and the salaries paid by the State are not enough for the entire family's monthly meal.

Lisbet Ferrer Bango, another mother cited by authorities, said she asked the officer present to put himself in her place.

However, the response was a threat of charges for contempt.

The authorities, for their part, tried to minimize the situation and described the summonses as "educational talks" to discourage future protests.

This episode was triggered two weeks ago, when this group of mothers demanded food, medicine and decent housing in front of the president's residence.

Through videos published on social networks, the women asked for housing, food and medicine for the children. However, they confirmed that no one came out to attend to their complaints.
