The accident that occurred this Tuesday in El Vedado in Havana, where a modern car crashed into a classic car on the corner of G and 17, was recorded by security cameras in the area.
A video shared in the Facebook group 'Bus & Truck Accidents' showed the exact moment when the accident occurred and the danger it represented for the pedestrians who were walking through the central area of the Cuban capital.
In addition to the minor injuries suffered on the head by one of the drivers involved, the accident was on the verge of causing serious injuries to several pedestrians walking at the scene.
One of them was hit by the almendrón at the time of the crash. Struck on the side by the modern car, the vehicle from the 50s overturned onto its side and slid several meters in that position.
A man who was approaching the corner was run over by the old American car and was thrown against the fence of a building, knocking it down due to the force of the impact. The presence of an electric pole in the location (against which the old American car was embedded) prevented the impact from being even worse.
Two other people (a young man and a gray-haired woman) were just inches away from being hit by the modern car, but they were unharmed and went to help the accident victims.
Immediately, a group of people gathered at the scene to assist the victims and managed to turn the almendrón back to its normal position. The driver was pulled out from the inside by two people who lifted him into another car, apparently unconscious.
The modern car, whose manufacturer and model could not be identified, was driving on Presidents' Avenue (G), while the classic car was driving on 17th street. Witnesses to the events pointed out that the traffic light located at the dangerous intersection had no electricity.
"Gentlemen, that happened right in front of me. At that traffic light, there is no light and it is true that the right of way belongs to G Street, where the grey MINREX car was descending, and the green car was crossing, the same car passed me at quite a speed," one of them mentioned.
The data collected by the surveillance camera indicated that the incident took place this Tuesday, May 28th at 11:23 in the morning. At the time of writing this note, details about the health condition of the almendrón's driver, as well as the pedestrian who was run over by this vehicle, are unknown.
