Cuban television will broadcast the European Championship and Copa America soccer tournaments.

The news is welcomed by sports lovers in Cuba, although they will probably miss a few goals or saves by the goalkeepers due to the lack of electricity, a recurring problem that affects the population on the island.

In the midst of an energy crisis marked by daily blackouts in all provinces, Cuban Television will broadcast live the matches of the Eurocup and the Copa America soccer tournaments, scheduled between this month and next July.

In his Facebook profile, the official journalist Pavel Otero announced the news: "Cuban Television will broadcast live all the European Football Championship games starting this Friday, June 14, and also the Copa America games from the 20th of this month."

Both competitions will come to an end on Sunday, July 14th, and less than two weeks later, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will kick off, which, as usual, will also be broadcasted.

Without a doubt, these are good news for sports lovers in Cuba, although they will probably miss a goal or save by the goalkeepers due to the lack of electricity, a recurring problem that has been affecting the Cuban population for decades.

Currently, several areas are experiencing power outages of up to 20 hours a day, making a normal life impossible. The blackouts are primarily due to the lack of investment and maintenance in the country's electrical infrastructure, as well as the reliance on imported fuels to generate energy.

Furthermore, the President Miguel Díaz-Canel himself admitted in his new YouTube space that there are no guarantees that the summer months will pass without disruptions in the electrical service.

Díaz-Canel reiterated what the Electric Union announced weeks ago, that power outages would increase due to the maintenance work at the thermoelectric plants, in an effort to ensure service in July and August.

"We will have prolonged maintenance until the month of June to minimize the inconvenience of power outages in the summer, especially in the months of July and August," the country's ruler stated.
