They propose to declare July 3 as Dissident Artist Day in honor of the Cuban actor Carlos Massola.

The proposal was made by Cuban activist Yamilka Laffita.

The Cuban activist Yamilka Laffita, known on social media as "Lara Crofs", proposed that the date of actor Carlos Massola's death be declared as "Day of the Dissident Artist".

The miserable, deafening silence that the island's establishment has maintained served them for nothing. Their tremendous lack of humanity and tact towards one of their own, who so much gave to this people through his art, has made him immortal. The people have cried and felt Carlos' prompt departure from this plane. The tributes that weren't made don't matter, he had the greatest one, the affection and love of his people," wrote Laffita in an emotional post on social media this Wednesday.

The activist then suggested that from now on, July 3 should be considered in Cuba as the Day of the Dissident Artist in tribute to Carlos Massola.

The people should come together once again to pay tribute to Carlos, an artist, yes, but also a Cuban of these times," concluded Laffita, in a proposal that has gone viral on social media in a matter of hours.

Only the activist's post has garnered over 2,300 reactions and more than 450 comments at this time.

In addition to this, there are those who, from their own social media profiles, have taken on the request.

Or those who even take for granted that from now on, Cuban dissident artists will be commemorated on that date.

"The greatest tribute to Carlos was precisely the silence of the dictatorship," a commentator rightly stated regarding the governmental omission that has deeply upset thousands of Cubans.

The death of actor Carlos Massola, who in recent years raised his voice on numerous occasions against the Cuban government, was completely ignored by the authorities of Culture on the island.

So far, no Cuban official cultural institution has echoed the actor's death on their social media profiles.

Neither the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), nor the Ministry of Culture (MINCULT), nor the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), nor the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) issued a statement regarding the artist's death.

The cultural news programs on television and the print media have not made any reference to the unfortunate incident either.

In the midst of the prevailing official silence regarding the death of Carlos Massola, the Assembly of Cuban Filmmakers published a timid text this Thursday, more than 24 hours after his passing, lamenting the artist's death while resorting to euphemisms on a couple of occasions to refer to the actor's political rebellion.

Despite the silence in the official circles, Massola has not lacked the recognition and spontaneous tribute from many of his colleagues, nor the affection of the people, who have appreciated the courage of the actor to express his political ideas without censorship or euphemisms.
