"Attention Venezuelan brothers. You have a lot at stake; you are risking your future and that of your children," Ugás said on his social media.

The Cuban professional boxing champion Yordenis Ugás reflected on the electoral fraud in Venezuela that declared Nicolás Maduro the winner for a third presidential term and expressed what he believes could be the future of the South American nation.

"I saw Maduro say that he will do socialism differently. The people of Venezuela are risking their freedom now and for the next 20-30 years. That socialism differently is like the one in Cuba," the athlete indicated on his Facebook profile.

Ugás warned Venezuelans that "Maduro will want to do what even Chávez could not, which is to eliminate all parties, eliminate all opposition, under the justification of an external enemy. We Cubans know about this. Be alert, Venezuelan brothers. You have a lot at stake; you are risking your future and that of your children. Strength and intelligence," he concluded.

The proclamation of Maduro as the winner of the elections has been widely questioned by opponents and by a significant part of the international community, which demands the verification of the results through the voting records that the government has refused to present.

The reaction that international organizations have had, such as the Organization of American States (OAS), requesting that the International Criminal Court (ICC) issue an arrest warrant against the Venezuelan leader, comes at a time when the crisis is intensifying, with reports of at least twenty protesters dead in the protests that have followed the elections.

Last Wednesday, in a national broadcast, Maduro threatened not to hesitate and "call on the people for a revolution with different characteristics."

"I say it solemnly from political power, we want to continue on the path that Chávez laid out," he said, blaming "American imperialism and fascist criminals" for the crisis in Venezuela.

He added that "I was not born on the day of the cowards" and that "if the empire wants to advance in its criminal plan, we will defend our homeland."

The Cuban champion Yordenis Ugás had shown enthusiasm last Sunday for the possible triumph of democracy in Venezuela. He even told the Venezuelans that they were "a beacon of hope for all lovers of freedom."
