The young Cuban players said goodbye this Tuesday to the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, after surprisingly losing to the "little" representatives of Matamoros, Mexico.
After reaching the last inning with a four to one lead, the Aztec team only needed this inning to surpass the Cubans at Volunteer Stadium.
Two home runs, one with two runners on base and another driving in two runs, dashed Cuba's hopes of continuing its journey in this World Series.
Cuba with four runs, six hits, and one error. Mexico with six runs and the same number of hits, zero errors.
On the Cuban side, Deivy Hernández pitched, allowing one run in four and two-thirds innings while striking out five batters.
However, the Mexicans did not respect the closer Denis Zamora, who gave up the home run to Antonio Guerrero with two on base, tying the game, and another from catcher Ulises Ortiz with one on base.
The day before, the Cubans had suffered their first defeat of the tournament, losing 10-2 to the representative from the Asia-Pacific region, Chinese Taipei.
Let's remember that the tournament rules state that there is double elimination, so the team that suffers two defeats must say goodbye to the possibility of medals and farewell to the tournament of 20 teams, half of which are from the host country.
Thus, the so-called Bombarderos de Santa Clara say goodbye to the event, where they also had fans who accompanied them both in the United States and in Cuban homes.
