A 61-year-old Cuban who had been missing since Sunday morning was found safe and sound, although somewhat disoriented.
His son, who had raised the alarm about his father, shared the good news on his Facebook wall.
"We have found my dad! Thank God he is okay, he was disoriented and had been missing these past few days. Right now he is fine and they found him trying to enter his workplace," explained Pedro Luis Echevarría Torres, who thanked everyone who helped him.
Mr. Pedro Luis Echevarría Sánchez suffers from diabetes and hypertension. His son had expressed his concern that he might be disoriented "as an insulin-dependent patient and not taking his medication."
Echevarría Sánchez lost track when he allegedly traveled from San Cristóbal to Mariel, in Artemisa.
On Sunday, around 9:00 am, he reportedly left Santa Cruz, in the municipality of San Cristóbal, to head to Mariel, and he was traveling in a car that was going to Havana.
The disappearances of people with mental or chronic illnesses have increased in Cuba recently, due to the lack of medication which destabilizes these patients and affects their normal behavior.
Relatives turn to social media to raise awareness of the cases and gather help to find them, due to the inefficiency of the authorities and the lack of an official channel to assist in the search.
