The Spanish commercial and charter airline Iberojet will resume its flights between Madrid and Santa Clara this summer for the second consecutive year.
The goal is to bring tourism to destinations such as Cayo Santa María and Cienfuegos, although it is also good news for Cubans living in the Iberian country.
Iberojet (formerly Evelop) offers flights to the city of Santa Clara from the Spanish capital starting June 20, with prices for one-way tickets starting at 280 euros on their website.
"Santa Clara is an ideal starting point to explore gems like Cienfuegos and Trinidad. Its strategic location takes you to the paradise of Cayo Santa María, perfect for relaxing, enjoying water sports, or strolling along its soft white sands," the site details.
According to the portal traveltradecaribbean, the operation of this route is managed by Iberojet in collaboration with the tour operator Jolidey, both of which are part of the Ávoris group.
This direct link between Abel Santamaría Cuadrado International Airport in Santa Clara and Madrid-Barajas in Madrid began in July of last year. The connection remained in place until September 4 with a weekly frequency (on Wednesdays).
Iberojet, part of the Barceló Group, announced last October that it will operate direct flights between Josep Tarradellas Airport in Barcelona and Abel Santamaría.
The offer will be available from June 25 to September 10 of this year, once a week. The flight will be operated by an Airbus A330-900neo, which has a capacity of 388 passengers and, according to the airline, marks a significant step forward in Iberojet's international expansion.
In June 2024, Iberojet restarted its direct flights between Lisbon and Varadero with planned seasonal operations until October of that year.
In 2023, the airline announced the cancellation of its routes to Havana and Santiago de Cuba due to low demand for flights to the Island. However, in 2024, it resumed its operations in Varadero, one of the most important destinations for tourism in the country.
