A terrible traffic accident occurred early Saturday morning on the Malecón in Havana, where a car crashed into a pole with such force that the driver died on the spot.
Alexander Rios Cruz, administrator of the Facebook group "Accidents, Fires and More," shared photos that show the extent of the destruction that the vehicle suffered after the impact.
Group members revealed that the victim was a young man of only 24 years old, who apparently was traveling alone.
The incident occurred at the corner of G and Malecón, where, according to several internet users, numerous fatal accidents have taken place.
"That curve is treacherous; it has taken a few people. Besides the fine gravel on the pavement, it's even worse when it's wet," one person said.
"They call that curve 'the death curve'. I live nearby and I've already lost count of the deaths and accidents; unfortunately, there are drivers who still don't seem to understand and respect traffic signals," expressed another.
"It's the sixth [accident] I know of against the same pole, with everyone dead at the scene," a third person recalled.
Two users suggested that a sign should be placed at the location warning about the number of accidents, injuries, and fatalities, or that so-called "lying policemen" should be positioned at the entrance of the curve.
Some speculated that the deceased driver was speeding, although this has not been confirmed.
