The remains of the musician from Santiago Luis Magarola Reyes were laid to rest in a funeral home in Santiago de Cuba on the night of this Saturday in an emotional and unique farewell.
A funeral serenade set to the rhythm of “Lágrimas Negras” filled the venue with music and applause, while family, friends, and admirers sang the iconic song in his honor, as reported on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta.
The tribute, which temporarily silenced the sobs of other mourners in the nearby chapels, was a homage to someone who dedicated over 20 years to bringing joy to the hearts of the people of Santiago.
Luis Magarola was the heart and soul of the "Prodigious Decade" Peña, an artistic space where romantic music and boleros found their home in Santiago de Cuba.
Luis Magarola Reyes, son of one of the members of the legendary Duo Hermanas Reyes, inherited the musical talent of his mother, which she knew how to share with her community.
Described as a respectful, loving, and kind man, his artistic and human legacy remains indelible in the memory of those who knew him, as reflected in various publications expressing sorrow over his loss.
His presence was essential in cultural centers of the city, such as the Capitolio Cultural Center and the Pista Pacho Alonso Cultural Center.
"Santiago de Cuba is grateful to you today for sharing your Art until the end of your days. God shows you His Glory... Rest in peace, magician," wrote a friend and colleague on Facebook.
"When you learn of the passing of someone you know, you are surprised and saddened, but when it is someone with whom you shared pleasant and unforgettable moments, the pain is immense," Odalys Morales expressed.
The mortal remains of the Santiago musician were laid to rest this Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
