In a highly complex surgical procedure, a multidisciplinary team of specialists from the "Saturnino Lora Torres" Provincial Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in Santiago de Cuba successfully removed a giant cardiac tumor that was jeopardizing the life of a patient.

The intervention took place at the Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiology Center of the province, where, due to the patient's progressive deterioration, the doctors decided to act urgently, as reported by the institutional profile of the Hospital on the social network Facebook.

The surgery involved cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses, perfusionists, and other healthcare professionals, who worked together to carry out the procedure, the note emphasized.

According to medical sources, the patient had an atrial mixoma, a type of tumor that, while generally benign, can lead to severe complications such as obstruction of blood flow, arrhythmias, and a risk of embolisms.

Its uncontrolled growth represented an imminent threat, so the only option was immediate surgery.
