Motorcycle accident in Havana leaves two injured

Two motorcycles were involved in an accident in the Mantilla neighborhood of Arroyo Naranjo municipality, Havana, and both riders sustained injuries of varying severity.

The incident occurred on Friday at the intersection of Calzada de Managua and Menocal Street.

"Everything happened when two motorcycles collided, resulting in injuries to their occupants. The rider of the white motorcycle was in a more critical condition and was taken to the hospital, while the other individual involved was transported to Julio Trigo Hospital with minor injuries," detailed the author of the post.

A witness confirmed this version and reported that the driver of the white motorcycle was losing a lot of blood.

Several internet users have commented that the Calzada de Managua is chaotic due to the speed at which vehicles travel, as if they were on a racetrack.

"There is no order, everyone is running and they don't respect lanes, speed limits, or pedestrian crossings..." affirmed a Havana resident.

However, others recalled that there has been a sewage outlet in that stretch for some time, which has caused other accidents.

"It is due to the dirty water that flows from the sidewalk every day, creating a slippery layer on the street. They are not the first nor will they be the last to experience this, because they do not close or fix that drainage issue that has caused more than one motorcyclist to fall," questioned a young woman.

This week, a motorist was injured in an accident that occurred on Avenida Paseo de Martí, near the Santiago de Cuba Train Terminal. A passenger car was involved in the incident.

A video shared on Facebook by journalist Yosmany Mayeta showed how the motorcycle ended up under the front wheels of the car. The motorcyclist was conscious and was taken to a hospital thanks to individuals who intervened to stop a taxi.

In the early hours of February 1st, a motorcyclist residing in the Santiago neighborhood of Altamira died after crashing into a pole.

The accident occurred at the entrance of the city, near the well-known Tienda Cubalse, situated at an intersection deemed dangerous, as other motorcyclists have lost their lives at the same location. The victim was not traveling alone; his companion, another young man from the neighborhood, survived the accident and was hospitalized.

In January, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Division of the General Directorate of the Police, indicated that motorcycles and mopeds are involved in 44% of accidents in Cuba.
