In a serious accident that occurred this Sunday, a car crashed into the guardrail near the bridge of the National Highway in Santiago de Cuba, spinning several times before overturning, injuring the driver, according to preliminary reports.

The influencer Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who reports on the current events in the eastern Cuban province, received information from a source about a traffic incident that left one person injured and destroyed the car, which had state entity license plates.

According to the witness who assisted after the accident, the car “went out of control,” then “.” “No one knows what happened,” he said.

Also in the first month of the year, six members of a family died after the driver of the car they were traveling in lost control and crashed into a large metal pipe on a road in the municipality of Mayarí, in the province of Holguín.

Last Thursday, a Transtur bus that was carrying 20 Czech tourists, a translator, and two drivers caught fire and was completely burned, near the viewpoint of Topes de Collantes in the province of Sancti Spíritus. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or injuries.

In 2024, there were 7,507 accidents, 634 fatalities, and 6,613 injuries, indicators that were lower than those of the previous year, according to a report from the Specialized Traffic Body of the General Directorate of the Revolutionary National Police (PNR).

The authorities identified drivers as the main contributors to accidents in the country, with 30% of these incidents caused by inattentiveness while driving.
