Cuban in a state of intoxication causes a head-on collision in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

A Cuban man is accused of a traffic safety offense after causing a head-on collision with another vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

The traffic accident occurred on the night of March 25, when a 59-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed, veered into the opposite lane on Joan Miró Avenue and collided head-on with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, reported the Local Police of Palma in a statement.

Around 10 p.m., a patrol from the Preventive Action Group (GAP) requested assistance from an Accident Vehicles Unit (UVAC) following a traffic incident involving two cars.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers confirmed that the Cuban driver showed clear signs of alcohol intoxication, which led to a breathalyzer test being administered. The test returned a positive result of 0.66 mg/L of exhaled air, more than double the legal limit allowed in Spain.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.

Although he was not detained, the Cuban was informed that he is under investigation and is required to appear before the judicial authority when summoned.

The Local Police of Mallorca indicated that the driver could face a penalty of up to three months in prison, pay a fine equivalent to three months, or carry out community service for 31 days; in addition to the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for one year and one day.

The investigated individual’s vehicle was immobilized by the authorities and transported to the municipal depot.
