Possessed by a "creative" frenzy, Sandro Castro, the "young revolutionary" grandson of the dictator Fidel Castro, released another video on his social media to congratulate the 64th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM) and the 63rd of the Communist Youth Union (UJC).
Known in Cuba as "Children and Youth Day," the date was celebrated this Friday amid the worst economic crisis in the 66 years of the Cuban communist regime, characterized by rising poverty, a troubling shortage of food and medicine, and widespread despair among the population, especially among the youth, which has driven millions of Cubans to undertake a sad and painful migratory exodus.
Unaware of this national tragedy, the dictator's grandson returned to his antics and published one of his new and provocative audiovisual creations, mixing his vampire character with another as a pirate, but without letting go of his inseparable companions: alcoholic beverages, rum, and Cerveza Cristal (Kristash, in the particular lexicon of the local slang).
While Miguel Díaz-Canel and his government were celebrating the anniversary of the communist organizations established by his grandfather and responsible for indoctrinating the youth, Sandro Castro was parodying a pirate movie on a makeshift boat, similar to those used by thousands of Cuban rafters to emigrate to the United States.
Without caring in the slightest about the pain of thousands of Cubans who have lost loved ones on such a perilous journey, who have wept over the forced separation from family members driven to emigrate by hunger, poverty, fear, and desperation, the "daddy's little boy" who now seems to be lamenting the separation from his girlfriend, dared to parody a pirate story, complete with his usual doses of absurdity and stupidity.
“Happy Student Day. United and prepared, we overcome difficulties. Telenovela 'Pirate in the Antilles'”, said Sandrito on his Instagram account, accompanying his congratulations with the humiliating video.
Hundreds of thousands of young Cubans are not guaranteed proper nutrition, live in poverty that prevents them from buying basic necessities, lack access to quality education, are repressed and imprisoned if they protest, many fall into drug addiction, and are forced to work or survive with only the hope of emigrating.
But the “young revolutionary” Sandro Castro, entrepreneur, bar owner, and “king of the Havana nightlife,” dedicated a harsh mockery about a raft, drinking rum and beer, unleashing his usual repertoire of nonsense while shouting “We are equality!”.
"Youth united and prepared overcome difficulties," said the insolent brat Sandro, the perfect result of the 'new man' experiment carried out by his delusional grandfather.
Between Díaz-Canel's mismanagement, the audacity of GAESA, and the insolence of Sandro Castro, there is hardly any difference. While the policies of the former and the investments of the latter design and implement a socio-economic project of state capitalism, oligarchies, dollarization, and extreme repression, Sandrito "normalizes" the spirit of these times through his "creations".
The mockery of the Cuban people is becoming increasingly grotesque. The powerful of the regime are slowly removing their masks, hiding beneath slogans and propaganda their appropriation of the country. But Sandro plays in different leagues: his mockery is direct, biting, and provocative. Nothing stops this brat whom the regime allows to graze freely to divert attention from its misdeeds.
Sandro Castro feels invulnerable, untouchable, and in a way, he is. Until it becomes beneficial to sacrifice him in order to protect the interests of other powerful figures within the regime. Or until a jolt of reality hits him, reconnecting him with his dulled senses.
