For days, a little dog named Bolita survived amid total abandonment and neglect, without water, food, or a shelter to protect herself in Guantánamo.

But his luck changed thanks to the swift action of the Provincial Fire Department, which responded to the call for help posted on social media.

The rescue was celebrated with excitement in the group Facebook Huellas Callejeras de Cuba, where Sofía Esquivel shared what happened:

“Thanks to the Guantánamo fire department team who responded to this little angel's desperate call. He had gone days without water or food,” she pointed out.

"Thanks to my colleague Yanet Giselle Llamos, who contacted me with the best intentions just moments after seeing my post. I know that in a few days Bolita will have a responsible adoption," stated the animal protector.

The post went viral on social media and generated a wave of thanks towards the rescuers.

Users highlighted the significance of the gesture, the sensitivity of the team, and the renewed hope for Bolita, a little dog who, despite the adversities, continues to demonstrate nobility.

The official spokesperson Carlos Pérez also shared the testimony on his social media: “Bolita found in them a hope and a refuge. Today, his story is a testament to compassion. Thank you, my God, for putting these noble-hearted heroes in his path!”

Beyond words, the act reveals a simple truth: the work of firefighters is not limited to extinguishing fires or rescuing people.

It also involves saving vulnerable lives like Bolita's, a street soul who can now dream of a worthy future.

Even in the Cuban context where animal rights are often violated, this story brings a ray of hope to the situation that pets endure daily.

In recent times, Cuban firefighters have carried out various animal rescues in extreme situations, demonstrating their commitment to animal welfare despite the limited resources in the country.

In 2023, a firefighting team in Havana responded to a call for help to rescue a stray dog that had fallen into a ravine in the Playa municipality.

Thanks to the collaboration of animal protectors and local residents, the dog was rescued and taken to a temporary home where it would receive the necessary care until a forever family was found.

That same year, in Santa Clara, firefighters managed to save Dante, the dog of a child with autism who had fallen into a well.

The child's mother highlighted the speed and professionalism of the rescue team, who also provided emotional support to the little boy, distressed by the situation of his pet.

A team of firefighters conducted a rescue operation in 2024 at the Malecón in Havana, where a dog was trapped among the rocks. The intervention prevented the animal from suffering more serious injuries due to the waves.

In Sancti Spíritus, a cat was trapped on the rooftop of a building with no way to get down by itself. The rapid action of the firefighters enabled the rescue of the feline, which was safely returned to its owner.

These events reflect the efforts of Cuban emergency services, which, despite the difficulties, continue their rescue work for animals, often with the support of activists and the community.
