Since last year, the Cuban regime has intensified drug enforcement operations in the country, with a greater emphasis on the capital, where drugs could be purchased in any neighborhood and block of the city.

Authorities have had to acknowledge the rampant rise of drug trafficking and consumption in the country, especially of the so-called “chemical”, primarily among the young population, and even among minors and in schools.

The official discourse insists on "zero tolerance for drugs," but reality shows that the distribution of narcotics has taken over the streets of Cuba, a phenomenon that worries most of the population and that law enforcement is trying to curb.

In its campaign against drugs, the government has not only intensified police operations but has also resorted to exemplary judicial processes and harsher penalties for drug-related crimes, with sentences that can reach up to 30 years in prison, life imprisonment, or even death.
