The Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo (FGE) in Mexico is prosecuting a Cuban citizen for the probable commission of the crime of human trafficking in the form of sexual exploitation of another, in Cancun.

The accused was identified as Yassel D Angelo “N” and/or Yasel “N”, who allegedly subjected the victim, a 22-year-old young woman who was his partner and whose identity is kept confidential, to sexual exploitation, as reported by the FGE in a statement.

According to the investigation, the defendant met the woman in February of this year and, after two weeks, convinced her to move in with him.

A few days into their cohabitation, he began to subject the victim to constant physical and verbal assaults, in addition to threatening to take her life and that of her family, which led the young woman to “leave the home she shared with her aggressor.”

The man went to fetch her from her relatives' house and convinced her to return with him through deceit, "telling her that he would no longer be violent and that everything would get better."

Back at the residence, the individual continued to assault her and began to sexually exploit her, according to the complaint from the victim.

The man exerted control over her activities and allegedly forced her to provide sexual services at his home and in various hotels in the Benito Juárez municipality, for which he charged between 2,500 and 3,000 pesos, none of which she received.

The young woman managed to escape again and, on May 20, she filed a complaint with the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Fight Against Human Trafficking, which requested and obtained a court order for the arrest of the Cuban.

The man was arrested and presented before the Control Judge, who ordered his link to the legal process and imposed the precautionary measure of preventive detention, which will remain in effect for the duration of the judicial process.

Nevertheless, the accused is presumed innocent until their responsibility is declared by the judicial authority, according to Article 13 of the National Code of Criminal Procedure (CNPP), warns the State Prosecutor's Office.
