Osiel Mancha Pereira, a 47-year-old Cuban, was condemned to 13 years and eight months in prison for the murder of a man on February 16, 2024, in the Italian city of Terni, in the Umbria region.

According to Rai - Radiotelevisione Italiana, Mancha Pereira was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter for the assault on Luca Bruschini, in front of the premises of the company owned by the victim, where the accused, of Cuban origin, also worked.

The press reports detail that the 41-year-old Italian entrepreneur was struck with extreme violence with a metal object.

The injuries he sustained caused him a long ordeal: Bruschini remained in a coma for 131 days in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Terni, where the man ultimately passed away.

Mancha Pereira had voluntarily turned himself in to the Carabinieri just a few hours after the attack. However, at the trial held in May of this year, the defendant denied being responsible for the murder, stating that he had few memories of what happened that night.

In his defense, he claimed that he had the perception of blood on his hands and clothes, but he did not clearly remember his actions.

During the process, he also recalled "traumatic" experiences from his childhood in Cuba and claimed to be a victim of a plot devised by some colleagues, related to alleged thefts that occurred years earlier at the company.

A psychiatric report ordered by the judge determined that the Cuban suffered from a chronic delusional disorder, which caused him to have a partial mental deficiency.

Due to that condition, the judge ordered on Tuesday, June 10, that upon completing his prison sentence, the man be subjected to four years of security measures in a Security Measure Execution Residence (Rems), a facility designed for socially dangerous individuals with psychiatric disorders. The ruling, however, is not yet final.

The investigation into the violent episode has not revealed any explicit prior conflicts between the businessman and the employee, nor any indications that an escalation could have led to the murder.

Macha Pereira's statements were "confusing," as described by Umbria Journal. His interventions, combined with psychiatric findings, paint a picture of a disturbed personality, in which elements of persecutory delusion intertwine with past traumatic experiences.

This is not the only homicide case in Italy involving a Cuban. Recently, Carlos Omar Morales was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the death of Teodoro Ullasci. Morales was accused of unintentional homicide in complicity with Alexandru Dumitru Balan.

Morales' defense argued that Ullasci's death could have been due to the combination of alcohol, cocaine, and medications in his system. However, the court determined that the blow inflicted by Morales was the triggering factor of the death.

In another criminal case, a 27-year-old Cuban was found guilty of attempted murder of a 13-year-old boy in Milan.

The alleged Cuban assailant is in prison and is charged with having stabbed the minor during a drug transaction that went wrong.
