The Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramírez, a two-time Olympic champion and former professional world champion, has fully recovered from the eye injury that forced him to withdraw from his last fight.
This was confirmed by his compatriot and fellow boxer Yordenis Ugás, who shared the encouraging news on social media.
"I took Robeisy to my ophthalmologist, the same one who operated on me. Thank God, after a few months his eye is healthy. He is ready to return to boxing and become a champion once again," Ugás wrote on his Facebook account.
"This is boxing: fall, get up, and keep fighting."
The injury occurred on December 7, during his fight against the Mexican Rafael "El Divino" Espinoza for the WBO featherweight world title.
Although Ramírez was ahead on the scorecards of two of the three judges, an injury to his right eye caused by what he claimed was an unpunished elbow made him withdraw in the sixth round. The swelling and double vision prevented him from continuing.
"One cannot compete at the highest level with double vision," the Cienfuegos native explained, prioritizing his health despite the adverse circumstances.
During his recovery, Robeisy continuously expressed his desire to return to the ring.
Last month, he posted on his X account: "Now there is silence. But they will hear me," accompanied by images of him training in a ring.
In April, he also recalled his world championship in 2023: "On a day like today in 2023, I reached the top of my division and became the world champion. We will celebrate again!"
The potential rematch with Espinoza - or even a trilogy - remains one of the most discussed topics among boxing fans, especially following the controversial conclusion of the fight in Arizona.
However, Ramírez has not yet confirmed the details of his return, beyond his determination to come back stronger.
Ugás, who has shown strong support for his compatriot, concluded his message with a call to the fans: "Most Cubans want to see him return and win another championship. Come on, champion, let's go."
The anticipation grows day by day. Robeisy Ramírez is back, his eyes set on redemption and reclaiming his throne in the world of boxing.
