A man was arrested in Little Havana, accused of threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend in a series of chilling messages he sent her last month, according to the Miami Police Department.
Christian Jesús Arias Acosta, 26 years old with undisclosed nationality, was arrested at Power Gym, located on Northwest Seventh Street in the popular Miami neighborhood, after the victim alerted authorities and stated that she feared for her life, reported the television channel Local 10 News.
The woman, whose identity remains confidential, informed investigators that she and Arias had a romantic relationship for about five months, after which they had separated.
According to the police report, on June 6, at around 10:15 a.m., she informed the officers that her ex-partner had sent her violent voice messages.
Upon listening to one of the recordings, she pleaded with him to stop harassing her. “And if I don’t let you see me, will you stop bothering me? Christian, please, stop,” she begged, to which Arias responded, “No, never, until you die.”
In another of his disturbing messages, the accused threatened to behead her and hang her head on the balcony of her house.
The victim provided the police with recordings of the threats as evidence. According to the report, the couple had documented histories of domestic violence.
The prison records indicate that Arias is facing a charge of written threats to kill or injure.
According to the Florida Statute 836.10, anyone who makes and sends any type of communication containing a threat to kill or cause bodily harm to a person commits a second-degree felony, which can be punished with up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
The Miami Police Department stated that Arias's arrest occurred without incident, after which he waived his Miranda rights and confessed to having sent the threats to his ex-partner.
