Authorities in Ciego de Ávila confirmed this Sunday that three teenagers lost their lives and at least 33 people were injured in the mass accident that occurred in the morning on the stretch known as Río Grande, between Marroquín and Majagua.

According to the official newspaper Invasor, the deceased have been identified as Maikol Dayán Torres González, aged 13; Dairon Sarmientos Domínguez, aged 16; and Lian Pazo Duanes, aged 14.

The three were traveling in a state vehicle from the Hydraulic Resources Company with license plate B-236623, which overturned while transporting several people through the rural area of the municipality of Majagua.

The same source indicated that 33 people were injured, of which 25 remain hospitalized at the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital in the capital city.

Another 8 were referred to the Roberto Rodríguez Hospital in Morón, in critical condition, with cranial or thoracic injuries that threaten their lives.

In a previous post on Facebook, journalist Odania García had identified two of the victims with the same information: Maikol Dayán de la Torre González, 12 years old, son of the vehicle's driver, and Dairon Sarmiento, 16 years old.

However, the third name provided by García does not match the official list, as she had mentioned Dianet Pozo Duanis, 14 years old, instead of Lian Pazo Duanes, as reported by the official newspaper.

Previously, Dayami Hidalgo had reported on Facebook that the incident occurred "on the road to Río Grande in the municipality of Majagua," and that the victims were given medical attention at the Doña Emilia Polyclinic.

After the tragic event, the public response was immediate. The residents of Ciego de Ávila began to organize themselves to donate blood to the victims of the mass accident.

The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m., when a private vehicle traveling from Varadero to Boca de Camarioca lost control and violently crashed into the masonry wall near the toll booth.

According to witnesses, the car was traveling at high speed when it collided head-on with the toll booth. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was thrown into the air, broke in two upon landing, and one half caught fire, causing an explosion that was visible from several points in the area.

Later, Rubén Lantigua, 33, and Amanda Naranjo, 30, were identified as the victims of the accident at the Varadero toll.
