This Friday, a new hearing occurred in a court in Broward County, Florida, regarding the criminal case of Cuban actor William Levy, who is facing charges for disorderly conduct and illegal entry onto private property.

The session, which lasted only about ten minutes, did not involve the physical presence of the actor, but was attended by his lawyer Regina Tsombanakis, who appeared on his behalf to provide an update on the current status of the proceedings.

During the hearing, the lawyer confirmed that the defendant was accepted at the end of June into a Diversion Program - a legal alternative to avoid trial for certain minor offenses - and that he began compliance on June 30.

“There is nothing more to be done in this case. After he completes the referral program, we believe the case will be dismissed very soon”, said Tsombanakis in statements to Telemundo 51 after the hearing concluded.

"Thank you all for your concern. William is very pleased with how the case has been progressing," he concluded.

These statements reflect the defense's optimism regarding the outcome of the proceedings, as long as the plaintiff fully complies with the requirements set by the court.

What does the Referral Program entail?

The Diversion Program mentioned by the lawyer is a judicial tool in Broward County designed to provide an alternative option for individuals facing their first offense for non-violent minor crimes. Its components include:

-Participation in classes and educational rehabilitation sessions.

-Supervision by a probation officer.

-A personalized case management plan.

Mandatory monthly reports to the assigned officer.

Established duration: in the case of Levy, 90 days, which would end by the end of September.

If the program is completed satisfactorily, the charges could be dismissed and the defendant would avoid both the trial and a criminal conviction.

Context of the case: The altercation at Baires Grill

The events that led William Levy to face legal charges date back to April 14, 2025, when he was arrested following an incident at the Baires Grill restaurant in Weston, Florida.

According to the police report and 911 recordings released by local media, Levy was visibly intoxicated and was charged with causing a disturbance, failing to pay the bill, and entering private areas of the establishment without permission.

He ignored orders to leave the area and was arrested by the police, although he later was released on bail.

In April, in his first statements after being released from jail, he expressed regret that although his intention was to avoid a confrontation between his companion and another customer, he ended up being arrested.

However, the lack of cooperation with the authorities during the altercation resulted in charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and trespassing on private property.

In another recent interview, the actor described the incident as "nothing serious".

The following: Next hearing and expectations

With the referral program in place since June 30th, the next hearing is scheduled for September 4th, when the attorney must present a report to the judge on the actor's progress.

If Levy meets all the requirements, the case could be closed without any criminal consequences.

Despite the controversy, William Levy remains focused on his career. His attorney confirmed that the actor is complying with all the court's requirements and is even preparing to travel abroad for new work projects.
